The secret magazine collective
Dear Gentle Readers-
There is a black market at the House on Holy Hill. It's an underground trade of magazines that are of the secular variety--shhhhhh...how scandelous!! Once officially a member of the underground magazine collective, it becomes one's duty to pick up a magazine from the outside world and bring it into the compound. Thankfully, we travel quite a bit if you look at everyone's schedules, so it's easy to take 4 dollars of travelling money and pick up a book or magazine. The favorites are --- People, Star, Real Simple, etc. The convent library already gets all the brainy intellectual New YOrker and Economist magazines. The unwritten rule of this collective, is simple, once you've read the magazine, pass it onto the next member. In case you're wondering, the superior and the assistant superior are not members. It's mostly third floor sisters. While in NYC, I got the latest issue of People which focused on how to lose the baby fat once you've had the baby. It probably wont help us much here.
Anyway, while reading one of these magazines, I saw a quote that reflected how I felt today and how I feel about this entire process.
"My advice to you is not to inquire why or whither; but just enjoy the ice cream while it's melting on your plate. " Thornton Wilder
Read into this what you will or what works for you. It just hit home with me and I wanted to share this with you.
Love,
